Intstructions on how to Properly Read a Nutrition Label
Step 1: Locate your nutrition label (it should be a table with a white background)
Step 2: Find the serving size (on the top left hand corner). This place shows the number of servings per container and the values on the nutrition label will be based on that 1 serving size.
Step 3: Look under for the calories, the calories is a measure of how much energy you are recieving from 1 serving.
Step 4: Underneath calories, there will be fats and sodium, this represents the amount of total fat (including cholesterol that is in the food)
When looking at the nutrition label, try to intake less than 65g of total fat daily and less than 300mg of cholesterol in a day. Furthermore try look out for transfat, that is incredibly harmful.
Step 5: Next, look at the carbohydrates (it basically means sugar)
Try to aim for only 300g or less carbohydrates a day and 25g of fiber daily (fiber is a type of carbohydrate that we cannot digest but it helps us with our digestive system, it is often found in fruits and vegetables)
Step 6: % Daily Values, this is a general guide to how much of each nutrient is in each serving
Step 7: And you are done! To learn more about nutrition labels feel free to look at the video above.
